Two Months Later, Fonseca Is Back at Work

Foreign Affairs Minister Francis Fonseca has returned to work two months after undergoing triple bypass heart surgery. He told News 5  today that he is recovering well but has not yet returned to full strength.

Fonseca made his first public appearance since the operation at today’s launch of Belize’s 45th Independence theme. “I’m doing great. It’s only been two months, so obviously I’m not 100%, but I’m getting there. But I feel really good,” Fonseca said.

The minister said he spent the first weeks after surgery focused entirely on his recovery before gradually reconnecting with his ministerial responsibilities. “The first few weeks, I really was completely focused on my recovery. But certainly in the last few weeks… I’ve been more in tune with what is happening and more in touch with my offices,” Fonseca said.

Despite the sudden medical leave, Fonseca said he was “very grateful for the outpouring of support and love and prayers received from Belizeans across the country, across the political divide.”
