A New Sports Council Board Takes Shape
The National Sports Council has a new board. Former Assistant Comptroller of Customs Jason Menzies has been placed at the helm as National Sports Director. He is supported by a fifteen-member board, which includes names like Pete Lizarraga, Troy Gabb, Rumile Arana and Liam Chebat, to name a few. Today, we got an opportunity to ask Minister of Sports, Anthony Mahler, about these appointments and the vision they bring to the table.
Anthony Mahler, Minister of Sport
“Leadership is always important in anything. If you have mediocre leadership that is what you will get throughout the organization, if you don’t have really strong people to support. I think we are headed in the right direction. I think Mr. Menzies brings a wealth of experience in the public service and also a level of discipline we need in the organization. There were too many loose ends and I believe he brings a level of mindset to ensure things are done in the right way.”

“I am not familiar with Mr. Menzies background in sports. Maybe the older folks might be, what can you share about that and the vision he brings?”
Anthony Mahler
“Well as the director you are an administrator, and you have people with the technical skills to be able to put the programs and the systems in place for you to move an organization like the national sports council forward. But you don’t have to be a chef to know how good food taste right?”
Reporter
“But, is it a more practical and indicative of a business like approach, because a lot of the time we hire athletes for jobs that requires administrators?”
Anthony Mahler
“That is right, you figured it out.”
