A Review of A Weekend Filled With Sports
Good evening, I am Paul Lopez with this week’s installment of Sports Monday. Tonight, we begin our coverage in Hattieville for the We Run Yawd Basketball Finals. After a season of epic showdowns, Hattieville Elites and City Reapers remained as the top two teams. They faced off on Saturday night for the championship title. Here is how that one played out.
In the first quarter, Hattieville Elites dropped fourteen points, while the Reapers scored a total of eight points. So, the Elites had an advantage going into the second quarter. But the Reapers did not slow down. They found new energy and were able to match the sixteen points that their opponents scored in the second quarter. The first half ended with a score of thirty to twenty-four points in favor of Elites. In the third quarter, the Reapers outscored their opponents, eighteen points to thirteen. But with everything on the line, the Hattieville Elites dropped twenty points in the fourth quarter and held the City Reapers to seven points. In the end, Hattieville Elites secured the We Run Yawd 2025 Championship title, with a score of sixty-three to fifty-one points.
The Cycling Federation of Belize is hosting the Caribbean Elite Road Cycling Championship this week. It is a huge regional sporting event and the first time that Belize is hosting it. The tournament will begin on Thursday and go through to Monday the thirteenth. Ahead of the regional showdown, the federation hosted a Final Preparation Race over the weekend.

“It is a practice race leading up to next weekends Caribbean Championship race. Next weekend, Boom Road will be a time trial and the road race on Sunday and today simulates the road race which simulates next Sunday. What we will do is lead off from Mirab, we will have a lead out. The race will actually start by the Puma Gas Station and we go up to the airport, enter the airport and John Smith Road and do two laps around from John Smith, up to Hattieville Boom Road, come back, do a second lap and then we will sprint to Mirab. So it will be two laps and sprint to Mirab. So the road race next week, the women will actually do this route and the men will do a third lap next weekend.”
