Ambushed and Shot, Victim Drives Himself to Hospital

A Belize City man is in critical condition tonight after being shot multiple times during what police believe was a targeted attack. The incident unfolded on Sunday evening along Baghdad Street, where the victim was reportedly ambushed while inside his vehicle. Despite his injuries, the thirty year old managed to drive himself to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Investigators say the shooting may be linked to a prior dispute over a vehicle, and police are now pursuing several leads as the investigation continues.

“On Sunday, the thirtieth of May 2026, police responded to a shooting in the Bagdad Street area in Belize City. On arrival, they learned someone had been shot and the person drove to the KHMH for treatment. Police went to the KHMH where they saw Karch Burns with several gun shot injuries. He reported that he was in his vehicle and he was fired upon by a male person and he received several injuries. Karch Burns remains at the KHMH in a critical condition at this time.”

“Any motive?”

ACP Hilberto Romero

“The only information is that he had an incident days before at pound yard with some other persons over a vehicle.”

“So it was a targeted issue?”

ACP Hilberto Romero

“He was the intended target. He had an incident there prior, so we suspect that has something to do with it.”

No expended shells were retrieved. Police say they are following up on several leads.
