Are We Doing Enough to Protect Women and Children?

The National Trade Union Congress of Belize is also speaking out after that horrific case of domestic violence in San Felipe Village left a mother and her two children dead. It’s a wake-up call that violence against women and children is out of control. Police have logged over one thousand, four hundred domestic violence cases this year, most involving intimate partners, and nearly one thousand, one hundred victims were women. The NTUCB says enough is enough. They’re calling on the government to ratify ILO Convention 190, which tackles violence and harassment at work. They want police and courts to protect survivors and deliver justice fast. Employers and unions must also step up with strong workplace policies. And they’re urging all Belizeans to break the silence and challenge abusive behavior. The NTUCB is walking the walk, taking action through training, partnerships, and public awareness campaigns, including the upcoming Sixteen Days of Activism.
