Ashley Longford Named NTUCB Youth Director
In December, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize made a move aimed at bringing more young voices into the national conversation. During its annual general meeting, the NTUCB amended its constitution to create a brand‑new position, Director of Young Vanguard. Shortly after, Ashley Longford of the Christian Workers Union was elected as the first person to take on that role. The position is designed to strengthen youth involvement within the trade union movement and help shape future leadership. Today, we spoke with Longford about her vision for the role and what she hopes to accomplish moving forward.

“It is such an honor to take up such a historic role. This is something new for the NTUCB to have an amended role, a first amended role in the constitution. Last year in the constitution they had a director of Young Vanguard to direct young people in unionism. So, for me I think this is a phenomenal time for labor movement and youth leadership and involvement. I think this is something historic for us, as young people of the ages of eighteen to thirty-five, the NTUCB has a youth arm where young people can go to and share their collective voice and bring out actions about things they need to resolve around labor right and situation happening in the economy, society and they will be heard and we will listen to them.”
