Attorney Seeks Stay of Execution for Convicted San Pedro Teacher
Convicted San Pedro teacher, 47-year-old Alex Jason Noralez is seeking a stay of execution following his conviction on two counts of sexual assault involving two minor high school students.
Noralez was found guilty in January of two of three charges and was sentenced to two 18-month prison terms on January 27. He was acquitted on the third count, which involved an allegation concerning a first-form student. Prosecutors alleged the convictions involved assaults on two second-form students.
His family engaged senior defense attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley, who filed an application in the Lower Court requesting a stay of execution and bail pending an inferior appeal. Bradley argued that Noralez has strong prospects of having his convictions overturned and said that every citizen has a constitutional right to appeal. The application also referenced Noralez’ ongoing health concerns.
The hearing, held this morning, was conducted in closed court on the order of the Chief Magistrate, barring media from observing the proceedings. The session lasted approximately an hour. The Crown was represented by a Sergeant Police Prosecutor, who presented arguments opposing the stay.
Noralez, a teacher for more than two decades, has denied all allegations, maintaining that he only hugged the students without sexual intent. During his trial, he was represented by Attorney Ronell Gonzalez. This marks his first conviction for a sexual assault offense.
The Chief Magistrate has reserved her decision on the stay-of-execution application and is expected to rule on March 24, 2026, including whether Noralez will be granted bail.
