Benita Keme-Palacio is a Belizean multimedia journalist and creative digital content producer with News 5 Belize at Greater Belize Media. Benita is also one of the anchors and producers of Belize’s only Spanish-language televised news broadcast, Noticiero 5 Semanal. After six years in healthcare, Benita transitioned into journalism, where she now bridges traditional broadcasting with digital platforms and specializes in producing engaging news stories for online readers, television, and social media audiences across YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and more. Recognized at the 36th Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) Awards for her feature on cultural survival in the modern era, Benita’s reporting explores the intersections of environmental sustainability, climate change, ocean conservation, disability inclusion, public health, gender, youth, indigenous rights, and other social issues, with a distinct focus on stories that are often overlooked. As a Climate Tracker fellow, Benita has produced stories on Belize’s transition to renewable energy and the growing role of solar power in community development. Benita has completed professional trainings with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Climate Tracker, CISCO Networking Academy, and the Belize Network of NGOs, as well as regional workshops on weather, climate, investigative journalism, and mental health reporting. Benita seeks to broaden her storytelling across the Caribbean and Latin America to amplify the human stories behind culture, climate change, public health, disability, and social equity by giving a voice to underrepresented communities.
