Autopsy Confusion Adds to Faber Family’s Grief

It’s a heartbreaking situation for the Faber family, who are still reeling from two unimaginable losses. On Thursday, we told you about their struggle to plan a joint funeral for Shamar Faber and his mother, Sheneile. Shamar, you may remember, was one of the shooting victims in that tragic crash near the KHMH back in March. He passed away on Tuesday, just ten days after his mother was brutally killed and discarded in a garbage drum. The family had hoped to lay them to rest together this Sunday, but hit a major snag. Despite already having a death certificate, they were told Shamar’s body needed an autopsy, raising fears that the funeral would have to be postponed. Now, with just one day to go, the autopsy has been cancelled, but the family is left confused and searching for answers. We spoke with Shamar’s aunt, Shawnette Tillet, who shared more about the emotional toll this has taken.

“I was  called by the investigating officer to come witness the autopsy for four-thirty today. So on my way out I was already halfway there. And they told me that the doctors canceled the autopsy. So I’m asking the investigating officer what is the reason for them to cancel the autopsy. The officer says something about a medical paper. So I said I asked you if I need to bring anything in regards to Shamar before I before I go that side to witness this autopsy. So they said, no, they already have everything. So no one is giving me a reason to. I still went up there to see what happened. By the time I reach up there, they already sent back the body. Also, the doctor refused to talk to me, refuses to talk to me, don’t want to give me any explanation as to why the autopsy was canceled. No one had given me any information, but I did get some information is because KHMH did not provide some medical paper that they needed to proceed with the autopsy.”

“Have you been given a new date for when the autopsy should occur?”

On the Phone: Shawnette Tillett, Aunt of Deceased

“No. No one has given me a date until when. No one, everyone refused to speak to me. No one has still told me when can I expect the autopsy to be done? Nothing. No one. The investigating officer who I spoke with, he’s confused. He does not know what happens. He said, I can’t speak on the behalf of the doctors. They said It’s canceled. It’s canceled. No reason. Nobody’s saying when is going to happen. Nothing. How we know that we cannot bury our nephew, we don’t have access to the body. Not none of that. We already ordered for our arrangement, the funeral home is losing money as well because they confirmed that the autopsy would be done four thirty.”
