The Belize Defense Force is mourning the loss of one of its soldiers following a deadly motorcycle crash on Thursday afternoon. Twenty-five-year-old Estevan Cus reportedly lost control of his Lifan motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail along the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway. He was not travelling alone. “The investigating officer reported that upon arriving on the scene of the accident he observed an injured and unresponsive male person who was subsequently identified as Cus, as well as another injured but responsive male person who was learnt to be the pilon rider of a motorcycle. Also observed on the scene was a damaged Lifan motorcycle. What the investigation has so far indicated is that both Cus and the pilon rider were traveling on board Lifan motorcycle, Cus being the driver, when upon approaching the junction, Mr. Cus allegedly lost control of the motorcycle and collided into the guardrail in that area.”

According to ASP Smith, Cus was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
