Belcan or Haulover? Fans Have Options Now
The confusion over where this year’s La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge will end has taken yet another twist.
The Belize Canoe Association announced this morning that fans in Belize City will still get a chance to see paddlers cross a finish line at the traditional spot on Monday: the Belcan Bridge.
The association says Caribbean International Brewery Co. Ltd. will be hosting the event there starting at 1:00 p.m.
In the announcement, organisers said the company “will be at the Belcan Bridge in Belize City from 1:00 PM on Monday, so all the fans, sponsors and avid viewers from Belize City can witness the grand finish of La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge 2026.”
The association added that vendors and entertainment will be available for spectators.
The announcement comes on day two of the four-day river race. The organisers of the 29th La Ruta Maya had officially moved the race’s final stop to the Haulover Bridge near the Grand Resort. The change received backlash from paddlers and supporters who insist the traditional finish remains the Belcan Bridge.
Now, with both locations set to host celebrations, this year’s Ruta Maya may end in two places at once.
