Prime Minister John Briceño has appointed Dr Harold Young as Belize’s new ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland, placing him at the centre of international discussions abroad.

Dr Young steps into the role with years of experience in teaching and public policy, both in Belize and abroad. He most recently lectured in political science and public management at Austin Peay State University in the United States and has also served as an advisor to the University of Belize’s history department.

He holds a doctorate in public law from Georgia State University, where his research examined how international courts operate, including the role of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Dr Young has also published work on law, politics, and history.

He officially took up the post on Monday after presenting his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva.
