Belize Bolsters Support for Historic Disability Act

The Ministry of Human Development, Family Support, and Gender Affairs has teamed up with the University of the West Indies to host an introductory training course to support the implementation of the Belize Disability Act. The act was passed in 2024 and guarantees equal rights, protections, and opportunities for persons with disabilities in Belize. This training marks a significant step in advancing its implementation. The one-day training aims to build awareness and capacity among professionals across various sectors, including health, education, social services, law enforcement, and civil society, so that they can effectively advocate for and implement disability rights. During the training, CEO of the Ministry, Adele Catzim-Sanchez, stressed the importance of education as a bridge between policy and practice. The Act represents Belize’s pledge to ensure dignity, equal participation, and full protection for persons with disabilities.
