Belize Builds Global Partnerships Ahead of UN Address

Prime Minister John Briceño arrived in New York on Wednesday ahead of Belize’s participation in the eighty-first United Nations General Assembly. While his address to the General Assembly is not scheduled until Saturday, the Prime Minister has already begun a series of meetings on the margins of the UN gathering. Briceño joined leaders from other small states on Thursday to discuss common challenges, including the need for greater cooperation and a stronger collective voice on the international stage. Today, he met with the OPEC Fund for International Development, including its President and CEO, Dr. Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, for discussions on potential future projects. And as Belize prepares for its formal representation at the UN, Briceño also spoke with a journalist from Columbia University about Belize’s role in international relations, effect of the Blue Bond and Belize’s National Health Insurance program. The Prime Minister is scheduled to address the 81st UN General Assembly on Saturday.
