Cabinet has approved another round of import tax cuts, bringing Belize into full compliance with its trade agreement with Taiwan.

A press brief issued on Wednesday said the amendment to the Customs and Excise Duties law implements the fourth phase of tariff reductions under the Belize–Taiwan Economic Cooperation Agreement (ECA). In simple terms, certain imported goods will now face lower duties, making them cheaper to bring into the country.

The release described the step as fulfilling Belize’s obligation to “bring Belize into full compliance with its phased tariff elimination.”

Beyond meeting trade requirements, the step is expected to strengthen economic ties with Taiwan and make certain imported products more affordable. The phased reductions are part of a long-term plan, meaning more Taiwanese goods could see lower charges in the future.
