Belize Elected to ICAO Council for First Time
Belize has been elected to Part III of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council for the period 2025–2028. Kennedy Carrillo will represent Belize on the 36-member ICAO Council during that period.
The vote took place today during the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly.
“This is a historic victory for Belize, as it will, for the first time, join and contribute meaningfully to the highest technical body in aviation,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT) said in a statement.
ICAO is a United Nations agency that supports 193 countries in coordinating global air transport and promoting safe, sustainable aviation.
The ministry added that the election “marks a victory for small states’ representation in global aviation governance.”
Carrillo, who previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Belize’s Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, will represent Belize on the 36-member council based in Montreal, Canada. She will participate in shaping policies on aviation security, environmental sustainability, artificial intelligence in aviation, and professional development.
