Belize Gets BZ$10 Million to Improve Water Access in Rural Communities
Belize has secured BZ$10 million from the Adaptation Fund to help rural villages get better access to clean water and prepare for climate change.
The new project, called SEAM (Securing Water Resources through Solar Energy and Innovative Adaptive Management), will bring solar-powered water systems to Boom Creek, Dolores, Otoxha in Toledo, and Copper Bank in Corozal. Over 1,800 people are expected to benefit.
The project will also support reforestation, watershed protection, and farming activities, particularly for women. Local water boards will get training to help manage these systems fairly and effectively.
SEAM will be carried out over five years by the Ministry of Rural Transformation and the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT), with support from the Ministry of Economic Transformation. Work is expected to begin in early 2026.
