Belize has secured a new multimillion-dollar investment to improve one of the country’s most vital roadways. The government signed a US$12.5 million loan agreement with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to upgrade an 18-mile section of the George Price Highway between Belmopan and La Democracia.

The project will include the construction of new service lanes, upgrades to existing bridges, and the addition of 16 bus stop lanes.

Signing the agreement were Financial Secretary Joseph Waight, representing the Government of Belize, and Waleed Sh. Al-Bahar, Acting Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

The Kuwait Fund has previously financed several major infrastructure projects across Belize, including upgrades to the Southern Highway, Hummingbird Highway, and Caracol Road.
