Belize Joins Regional Plans for Investment Network

Belize has joined regional efforts to strengthen investment facilitation through discussions at the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Public Forum in Geneva, Switzerland.

Narda Garcia, Chief Executive Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister, represented Belize at the forum on September 16. She attended at the invitation of Anabel González, World Bank Vice President for Countries and Regional Integration.

The discussions focused on the WTO’s Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement and ways countries in Latin America and the Caribbean can strengthen their investment and business environments.

One of the initiatives discussed was the creation of a Regional Network for Investment Facilitation and Promotion in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The proposed network would allow participating countries to share experiences, strengthen institutional capacity, and access technical and financial support to improve investment facilitation.

The Inter-American Development Bank has supported the initiative, with the network expected to launch in Panama on October 20.

The initiative is intended to strengthen regional collaboration on investment facilitation, support practical reforms and build institutional capacity across Latin America and the Caribbean.
