Belize Joins Top Global Financial Regulators
Belize has taken a major step in global finance, with its Financial Services Commission (FSC) admitted as an Ordinary Member of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), the body that oversees nearly all of the world’s stock markets.
This milestone puts Belize on the map as a trusted player in international finance. “Ordinary Membership is the highest level of participation within IOSCO,” the FSC said in a statement, noting it is reserved for regulators that meet strict standards for legal authority, supervisory capacity, and enforcement cooperation.
“IOSCO’s members collectively regulate more than 95% of global securities markets across 130 jurisdictions.”
The FSC’s path to ‘Ordinary’ membership began with Associate Member status in May 2024, followed by its designation as a signatory to IOSCO’s Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MMoU) in December 2025.
With membership, the FSC gains voting rights, eligibility to serve on IOSCO committees, and the ability to help shape international regulatory standards. Officials say the move also strengthens Belize’s capacity to supervise emerging financial technologies, including digital assets.
The FSC regulates Belize’s non-bank financial services sector, including investment firms, brokers, and other financial entities.
