Belize Launches First-Ever Nutrition Programme for People Living with HIV

A new programme that will put food on the table for people living with HIV (PLHIV) has been launched.

The Ministry of Economic Transformation (MET) and the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support, and Gender Affairs, with backing from the National AIDS Commission (NAC), have signed the landmark agreement to provide monthly food packages to PLHIV across the country.

The initiative, which runs from July 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, will see BZ$108,000 allocated to supply BZ$300 food packages to thirty beneficiaries.

The Ministry of Human Development will link recipients to wider social protection services. This will create a safety net that addresses not just medical needs but also the everyday struggles of living with HIV.

Civil society partners, including the GoJoven Belize Alum Association and the Belize Family Life Association (BFLA), will play a hands-on role by identifying participants and providing case management support. NAC will coordinate oversight through a joint working committee.

The agreement, initially set for one year, could be extended for up to two more years depending on its success and available funding.
