Belize Records One Less Murder in 2025
The Belize Police Department reported a small decrease in major crimes in 2025 during its National COMPSTAT Meeting on Thursday.
According to the department, major crimes fell by 1 per cent, from 1,098 cases in 2024 to 1,086 last year. Murder, burglary, theft, and unlawful sexual intercourse all declined, while cases of rape and robbery increased.
Murder cases dropped by one, from 92 in 2024 to 91 in 2025. Burglaries fell slightly to 597 from 601, and thefts decreased to 142 from 151. Meanwhile, rape cases rose from 39 to 44, and robberies from 162 to 174.
Police have made 387 arrests for major crimes so far in 2025.
The National COMPSTAT Meeting reviewed both crime and traffic data, providing officials with an overview of trends across the country and helping guide law enforcement strategies for the year ahead.
