Belize Red Cross Issues Urgent Appeal After Hurricane Melissa

There’s a call for urgent humanitarian aid following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa. The Belize Red Cross Society has launched an emergency appeal to support the islands ravaged by Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall in Jamaica on October twenty-eighth and Cuba just a day later. The storm left behind a painful trail of destruction, flattened homes, crippled infrastructure, and widespread power outages. Preliminary reports indicate hundreds of families have been displaced. Many are now in desperate need of shelter, clean water, food, and medical care. The Red Cross has activated its National Emergency Response Mechanism, but officials say the scale of the disaster demands immediate financial support. To help, the Belize Red Cross is appealing for cash donations. Contributions will go directly toward emergency shelter, food and hygiene supplies, medical services, and psychosocial support. Director General Lily Bowman urges individuals, businesses, and the international community to act swiftly.
