Belize River Valley Students Become Young Disaster Leaders
Ten students and one teacher from Belize Rural Primary School have graduated from the School Disaster Leadership Brigade Program, a new initiative by NEMO and Taiwan ICDF to strengthen disaster preparedness in the Belize River Valley.
The graduates, representing six communities, were trained in fire safety, first aid, and search and rescue skills, becoming some of the youngest disaster responders in the district.
NEMO’s Giani Vasquez praised the students, calling them “a new generation of resilience.” Each participant received certificates, safety gear, and emergency supplies, while the school gained vital disaster-response equipment.
The initiative marks a major step toward building safer, more resilient communities across Belize.
