Belize Strengthens UN Partnership on Governance and Disaster Preparedness
Belize is expanding its collaboration with the United Nations to advance governance and disaster preparedness. Minister of Public Service, Governance, and Disaster Risk Management Henry Charles Usher met UN Resident Coordinator Raul Salazar and Deputy Resident Coordinator Michael Lund in Belmopan on Monday to discuss joint projects and deeper cooperation.
The talks focused on improving disaster risk management, advancing good governance, and aligning efforts with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to a statement. Minister Usher said the partnership will help build resilient communities and strengthen climate change response.
Salazar stated that it is important to address the ‘shared challenges, such as climate change, disaster preparedness, and public service modernization.’
The meeting concluded with an agreement to track progress on initiatives with an objective to improve disaster readiness and public service systems.
