Belize Takes the Lead in Regional Energy Organisation
Belize has stepped into the regional spotlight by assuming the Presidency Pro Tempore of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) during the 10th Energy Week in Santiago, Chile.
The gathering brought together ministers and energy leaders from across Latin America and the Caribbean to push for a fair and sustainable energy transition. Key discussions centred on boosting renewable energy, strengthening cross-border cooperation, and attracting investment in clean technologies.
Representing Belize, Public Utilities and Energy Minister Michel Chebat, alongside Energy Director Ryan Cobb, highlighted the country’s growing efforts to diversify its energy sources, strengthen regional connections, and build policies that encourage clean energy investment.
“Belize accepts this responsibility with humility and a firm commitment,” Minister Chebat told delegates, emphasising that the energy transition is not just an environmental priority but a matter of energy security, economic stability, and resilience for small, climate-vulnerable nations like Belize.
