Belize Talks Money in Taiwan
Belize is looking to deepen its financial relationship with Taiwan, and this week a team of officials and industry leaders travelled there to promote the country’s financial services sector to potential partners and investors.
The visit was part of the weeklong Belize–Taiwan Financial Services Technical Mission, which brought together more than 35 stakeholders, including representatives from the Taiwan Stock Exchange and several private-sector investors.
Belize’s ambassador to Taiwan, Katherine Meighan, delivered the welcome remarks, followed by Finance Belize Chairman Reynaldo Magaña, who provided an overview of Belize’s financial services and products. “The seminar allowed for a high-level overview of Belize’s priority financial products and services highlighted by Finance Belize, BCCAR, IMMARBE and BHSFU.”
The mission also focused on exchanging ideas and learning from Taiwan’s experience in areas such as financial regulation and financial technology (fintech).
Another key part of the discussions involved potential updates to agreements between Belize and Taiwan, including a Bilateral Investment Treaty and a Double Taxation Agreement, which could make it easier and more attractive for businesses to operate across both markets.
Belize and Taiwan have maintained diplomatic relations for more than 35 years, and since signing an Economic Cooperation Agreement in 2022, the two countries have been steadily expanding trade and investment ties.
