Belize and the United Nations are looking ahead to the country’s next phase of development.

Government officials and representatives from the United Nations Country Team gathered in Belmopan today for the 7th Joint National Steering Committee Meeting, where discussions centered on Belize’s priorities for 2026 and the years beyond.

The high-level meeting brought together Chief Executive Officers, senior government officials and heads of UN agencies to assess progress already made under the current United Nations cooperation framework and to begin shaping the next development cycle from 2027 to 2031.

At the heart of the discussions was Plan Belize 2.0, the government’s medium-term strategy aimed at guiding national development through 2030. Officials also examined how United Nations support can better align with Belize’s goals in areas such as sustainable development, coordination and economic progress.

Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Amalia Mai, said the partnership with the United Nations continues to play a key role in providing technical support, encouraging policy dialogue and helping mobilize resources for Belize’s development agenda.

Meanwhile, United Nations Resident Coordinator Raul Salazar stressed that UN support must continue delivering “tangible and measurable results” that directly benefit Belize and its people.

The meeting ended with both sides reaffirming their commitment to working together to advance Belize’s national development goals and the broader Sustainable Development Goa
