Belizean Man Reported Missing in Melchor

Karen Guzman, a Melchor resident, is appealing to the public for help in locating her husband, 26-year-old Edgar Lopez.

Lopez is a Belizean who she says has been missing since Saturday, August 23.

Guzman said Lopez disappeared from their home in Melchor de Mencos, Petén, sometime between 11:30 p.m. and midnight while she was asleep. She noticed he was gone when she woke around 1:20 a.m.

Lopez was last seen wearing navy blue fabric shorts, a light pink or light brown shirt with black stripes and the word “Adidas” in black, and black women’s sandals. Guzman said he had just returned from working in the cayes on Friday.

“It is very distressing what I am going through,” Guzman told News 5.

She reported his disappearance to Guatemalan authorities on Monday and on Tuesday filed a missing person’s report with local Belizean authorities. Guzman has tried calling him, but his phone is off, and his workplace confirmed he has not reported for duty.

“As his wife, I am extremely worried about him; his mom and his family are also worried about him,” she said.
