Belizean/Mexican Man Fatally Shot in Chetumal
A 29-year-old Belizean/Mexican man was fatally shot in Chetumal early Saturday morning in what is a suspected targeted attack.
The victim, identified as Colin Clifton Cherrington Galban, was shot multiple times outside a closed shopping centre around 4:20 a.m., according to initial police reports. Witnesses say the assailants arrived in a white vehicle, briefly spoke with the victim, and then opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Officers from Mexico’s Secretary of Citizen Security responded to reports of gunfire and found the man lying in the street with gunshot wounds to the chest, sides, and left wrist.
Mexican media outlets reported that paramedics from the Emergency Medical Services and Rescue Squad (ERUM) transported him to the General Hospital in Mexico, where he was listed in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he died later that day.
Mexican authorities have launched an investigation into the shooting. No arrests have been reported.
