Belizeans in Taiwan Eagerly Await Independence Day Celebration

September celebrations are underway and with the carnival road march and the Tenth Parade behind us, Belizeans are now eagerly anticipating the Independence Day festivities. Here at home, that means another parade bursting with color, music, and energy. But for Belizeans living abroad, the celebration takes on a different vibe. So how are our folks in Taiwan marking the occasion? We spoke with Belize’s Ambassador to Taiwan, Katherine Meighan, who shared how the diaspora is keeping the spirit of the Twenty-first alive.

“So we’re lucky this year. Because the twenty-first falls on a Sunday, so that gives us an opportunity to celebrate on the Sunday. So we’re having our national Day, our Independence Day celebration on the twenty-first , which is coming up, and I encourage any Belizean that is in Taiwan that sees this piece to come and join us. We’re gonna have Belizean food. It’s going to be a lovely opportunity to catch up, to also become more familiar with these many stories of all these Belizeans that are here in Taiwan. So we’re excited about that. And of course, we’re excited to be celebrating Belize at forty-four.”
