Belize’s Carnival Spirit Captivates Ambassador Bauer

Orange Walk’s Independence Day Carnival gave U.S. Ambassador Andre Bauer an early taste of Belizean culture. He intended to spend only part of the day there, but the energy, music and celebration convinced him to stay all afternoon. Here are his thoughts on the experience.

“Golly, if you hadn’t been, you need to get there. I got invited to come down and my staff had planned for me to do half of it. But, that was not happening. We stayed until the end. It was dark by the time I got done. I got to shake so many hands, meets so many incredible people, such diverse background. But I will tell you this, I don’t know any other place in the world, and I have been close to fifty countries, that people have so much pride in their country. Forty-five strong is impressive but how much people love this country, how much they take real pride in their independence is impressive. I am glad I get to be a part of it, and Orange Walk was a great way to experience Belizean culture.”

 

The Orange Walk carnival was among Ambassador Bauer’s first taste of Belizean culture.
