Belize’s Humanitarian Aid Delivered to Venezuela

The humanitarian aid Belize helped send to Venezuela alongside eight other CARICOM states has reached the South American country, with 88 containers of relief supplies arriving at the Port of La Guaira on Sunday. As previously reported on Thursday, Belize joined the regional effort following the twin earthquakes that have killed at least 4,333 people.

Venezuela’s Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Yvan Gil, received the shipment alongside Vice Minister for the Caribbean Raúl Li Causi at La Guaira, the worst-affected area in the country. The Government of Belize said the containers carried 258.9 tonnes of supplies, including food, potable water, water storage tanks, medicine, diapers, hygiene supplies, mattresses and blankets.

In all, the Venezuela’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported receiving 88 containers of supplies and 300 water tanks and two earthmoving machines.

Gil thanked the participating countries of the CARICOM for the support, saying Venezuela remains grateful for “the Co-operative Republic of Guyana and CARICOM for joining this initiative. We are fully aligned and fully coordinated with our Caribbean Community, a sisterly and friendly community, as it has demonstrated on this occasion.”

“The only way to confront a humanitarian crisis is through the unity of our peoples,” Gil added.

Current figures show 6,462 people rescued and 16,000 injured, with thousands displaced. Belize said the relief effort reaffirms its commitment to regional solidarity and humanitarian cooperation as Venezuela continues the long road to recovery.
