Belize’s Inflation Holds Steady, but Some Costs Bite
Belizeans saw prices rise by just 0.6% in September compared to last year, according to the latest report from the Statistical Institute of Belize. While the overall increase may seem slight, the details show a dynamic shift in the cost of everyday living.
Housing and utility costs are leading the way. The price of a 100-pound LPG cylinder jumped 11.6%, from $116.58 to $130.07. Rent also crept up slightly, meaning many households are feeling the pinch as they try to stretch their budgets.
Eating out became more expensive, with the Restaurants and Accommodation Services category rising 2.8%, driven by higher prices at restaurants and cafés. Meanwhile, drivers had a break from rising costs, as fuel prices fell. Regular gas dropped by $0.63 per gallon, premium by $0.62, and diesel by $0.18.
The first nine months of 2025 show a 1.2% rise in prices compared to the same period last year. Food, housing, dining out, and personal care items were the main drivers, while transport and tech-related costs declined.
