Belmopan Awaits Long‑Delayed NHI Launch
One of the biggest takeaways from Saturday’s P.U.P. National Party Council meeting is news that many Belmopan residents have been waiting on for months, the rollout of National Health Insurance in the capital is finally about to begin. Area Representative Oscar Mira says the delays are now behind them, and contracts for N.H.I. providers will be signed next week. He’s urging residents to get registered, calling the program a major step toward affordable, quality healthcare for everyone in Belmopan. Here’s what he had to say.

Oscar Mira, Area Representative, Belmopan
“We have been waiting for NHI from last year. We were hoping that from November of last year NHI would have been rolled out in Belmopan.t here were some technical difficulties but next week we will sign those contracts for NHI. NHI gives everybody the assurance that they can get quality health care for a fraction of the price in Belmopan. This is how this government is investing in the people. We nuh just take the boledo money and say let us invest it in something. We are investing it in what matters, NHI, health and we have been out in Belmopan making sure everybody is educated in NHI and I urge everyone. As soon as you can go and register, take your social security card and register for NHI.”
Mira says the next big step is simple, Belmopan residents should get registered so they’re ready to benefit as N.H.I. finally rolls out.
