Big Investment Aims to Strengthen Belize’s Security Forces

Belize is investing big in public safety. A massive thirty million US dollar investment is on the table to upgrade police stations, boost the Coast Guard, and even build a state-of-the-art medical center. It’s all part of the Belize Integral Security Program, a plan designed to make communities safer and improve quality of life, while also strengthening the fight against crime across Central America. So, what does this mean for you? More patrols, better equipment, and stronger institutions keeping Belize secure.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs

“Today we are honoring our pledge of newer, better, modern police stations across the country and this is the first of several new police stations that will be constructed across the country under the CABEI project. Here we are in beautiful Bella Vista which is home to some eight thousand residents; peace-loving, law-abiding citizens who want greater peace and citizen security within their community. We have seen over the last few years where crime and violence has been growing and extending in the Toledo District and we thought that Bella Vista was one of the key destinations for us to place a strategic police station. And so, here we are constructing the Bella Vista Police Station. After this, we’ll be constructing in San Narciso, Caye Caulker, San Pedro, Orange Walk and Corozal. So, we have a lot to look forward to in newer, more modern, more resilient police stations across the country. As you know, we recently concluded our nationwide tour across the country. We have listened to the concerns of our police officers and we at the ministry are dedicated to the welfare of our officers and we want to ensure that they are comfortable in their jobs, in their workstations. And that is why it is important that we, as a government, honor our pledge and that pledge is to create and build and construct new police stations across the country.”
