Blue Economy, Coastal Management Get $447,000 Equipment Boost

Nearly $447,000 in vehicles and marine equipment has been handed over to the Ministry of Blue Economy and Marine Conservation (MBEMC) and the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute (CZMAI) to strengthen their coastal and marine management operations.

The equipment was handed over on Monday at the Fisheries Compound in Belize City through the World Bank-financed Belize – Blue Cities and Beyond Project.

The handover includes two pickup trucks, a 32-foot Ocean Runner vessel and trailer, a VHF marine radio and two outboard engines. One pickup was handed over to the MBEMC, while CZMAI received the other vehicle and remaining equipment.

The equipment is intended to strengthen the agencies’ capacity to carry out field operations, monitor coastal and marine areas, implement project activities and support the sustainable management of Belize’s coastal and marine resources.
