Bomb Scare Delays Court, but ‘32’ Staine Lands Back Behind Bars

Tonight, we have a major update on a story that’s been making headlines. Twenty-two-year-old Jahreem Staine, better known on the streets as “32”, is back behind bars. Just two days after his last court appearance, Staine was hauled before the Chief Magistrate today and slapped with two new charges for contempt of a judicial order. And, he’s been denied bail. Now, this morning’s hearing didn’t go as planned. Staine was supposed to be in court at nine a.m., but an alleged bomb threat delayed everything. By noon, G13 police wasted no time and rushed him to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for arraignment.

Inside Court #1, Staine’s attorney, Norman Rodriguez, fought hard to get the charges thrown out, arguing that the paperwork didn’t clearly explain what his client was accused of. But the Chief Magistrate wasn’t buying it. She ruled against the dismissal, saying the law is clear, and within half an hour, those two contempt charges were read out loud. So, what’s the allegation? Prosecutors say Staine violated his High Court bail conditions by failing to sign in at the Belama Police Station on two separate Fridays, September fifth and October third. His lawyer claims Staine had medical reasons and even presented doctor’s notes. But that wasn’t enough to sway the court. Prosecutor Stacy Smith came in strong, arguing that Staine should not get bail, not just because this is his second contempt charge, but because of serious threats to his life. Smith revealed chilling details: at least two high-level, premeditated attacks have been made against Staine, involving multiple weapons and dozens of rounds fired, twenty-eight shells in one attack, seventy-eight in another. Both shootings happened in public spaces, outside gang zones, putting innocent lives at risk.

The Chief Magistrate agreed, citing public safety and Staine’s repeated breaches of bail conditions. She concluded that if he couldn’t follow the rules for an attempted murder charge, why trust him now? Bail denied. Staine will remain at the Belize Central Prison, though his lawyer argues even that can’t guarantee his safety. Staine can still apply to the High Court for bail, but the same arguments could come back to haunt him. And there’s more trouble ahead: his attempted murder bail might be revoked too.
