Bombs Found After Deadly Explosion in Orange Walk

A massive explosion in San Jose Nuevo Palmar, Orange Walk District, late this evening has been linked to “a 1,000-pound bomb”, according to a highly placed source. The powerful blast ripped through a residence around 4:00 p.m., leaving at least one person dead.

Residents described feeling the shockwave from the explosion. One neighbour told News Five, “My whole house shake.”

Police and fire officials rushed to the scene and later cordoned off the residence of former PUP minister Dave Burgos, where the incident occurred.

Specialized personnel, including members of the Belize Defence Force, are on-site. The source told News Five that two bombs were discovered and are currently being rendered safe (defused) and transported from the area.
