Bowen & Bowen Offers $5,000 Reward After Robbery

Bowen & Bowen is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever assaulted two of its employees during a robbery at Hope Creek Supermarket.

Both employees required medical attention and are recovering. The company says no cash was taken during the incident.

Bowen & Bowen called for Belize to modernise its payment systems, arguing that cash still moving through delivery routes makes employees an ongoing target for criminals. “Carrying cash makes delivery routes, drivers, salespeople and businesses attractive targets for criminals. In 2026, we should not have to operate this way.”

The company says many businesses still can’t integrate electronic payments directly into their accounting systems, forcing employees to manually track and reconcile transactions instead of relying on automated systems.

“Technology exists to fix this. Modern payment systems allow customers to pay electronically and have that payment securely and automatically posted to their customer account and, most importantly, reduce the need for businesses to collect and transport cash.”

Bowen & Bowen is calling on the Central Bank of Belize, commercial banks, payment providers, and the business community to work together on modernising the country’s payment infrastructure.

“Less cash on our roads means less opportunity for crime. Belize has the technology. Now we need our payment system to catch up.”
