Boxing in Belize Will Now Be Regulated

The Belize Boxing Commission (BBC) has been formally established as the national body in charge of professional boxing, with full authority to regulate the sport across the country.

Incorporated as a non‑profit under the Belize Companies Act, 2022, the Commission is officially recognised by the National Sports Council (NSC) under the Belize Sports Act. Its Certificate of Registration confirms its status for January through December 2026.

In its announcement, the BBC said it was created “to protect the health and safety of every fighter in Belize” and to “uphold the integrity of the sport and provide a regulatory framework that meets international standards”.

The NSC confirmed the commission’s executive leadership on March 20, giving it authority over licensing, disciplinary rules, and compliance with international rules.

The BBC is led by Javier Romero, president and commissioner, with Charlton Roches as vice president, Edilto Romero as general secretary, and executive members Tomas Serrut and Carlos Rodriguez. The non-profit operates under a board of directors.

“All BBC‑sanctioned events will meet the highest safety standards, including pre‑fight medical examinations, ringside medical personnel, and adherence to internationally recognised rules and procedures,” its release stated.
