Bradley Backs Independent Probe Amid Police Trust Crisis
Attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley also spoke on the erosion of public trust for the Belize Police Department, as highlighted by ComPol Rosado. Bradley says he supports the growing call for an independent investigation. He says if the police department leads the investigation, the public mistrust hanging over their heads will not go away.
Richard “Dickie” Bradley, Attorney-at-Law
“It is unthinkable, it is almost incredible that the police who a new commissioner has said there is a problem with the public and the trust levels with that department, big respect for Doctor Rosado for stating something we all know but don’t make a big issue out of it. So the police has a major credibility problem. Big respect to the minister of foreign affairs, he made himself available to the media. He sounded like in his mind he has not ruled out that there might be a need for an independent inquiry into this matter. I support him a hundred person. I know that the group of lawyers, OJ Elrington and the others, they are crafting a release to say to the government not to put the police in an unenviable position where they are being accused and then they will be investigating themselves. They have already disqualified themselves by saying we will carry out an investigation, Mr. Media please give us a little chance, we will share our things with you, but the high command and the police are not involved, they say they don’t investigate that they are not involved. It is a terrible situation and it would be unfair to them, because they will carry that stigma, if there is not an independent investigation, that it is them that did it.”
