Budna Alleges Cover-Up; Police Deny Claims
Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado says the department is deeply concerned about how Joseph Budna ended up in Guatemalan custody. In an audio recording, Budna claims calls were made directly to the Commissioner, but Rosado flatly denies that. Budna also says he warned police ahead of time, giving the license plate and description of the vehicle that allegedly abducted him. But according to ComPol Rosado, there’s no record of any officer receiving that information.

“The investigation is ongoing at this moment and we are hoping it will be able to reveal what transpired.”

“What has the video footage revealed?”
Dr. Richard Rosado
“The investigators have been reviewing video footage and what we do know that there was a confrontation around four individuals. One of them fit the description of Budna, who was placed in what appears to be a car. Anybody can make allegations and I want to ask you to allow the investigation to take its course and whatever we uncover we will share with the media. But our investigation so far revealed that no police officer approached those individuals and it was shown in the camera footage that the confrontation was among four individuals, one who appears to be Joseph Budna. We were following several leads and a media house forwarded us a post on social media on the following evening and we then contacted or our counterparts at PNC in Guatemala who confirmed Jospeh Budna was detained in Melchor on an arrest warrant. No other information was provided to us.”
