BWS Strengthens Southside’s Emergency Water Supply
Belize City’s southside is expanding, but can its water infrastructure keep pace? Belize Water Services is investing millions of dollars in additional storage to ensure customers have a more reliable supply, even when emergencies or major repairs disrupt normal operations. The project is already more than halfway complete and represents a critical step toward strengthening the city’s water security. Chief Operations Officer Sanjay Keshwani tells us why that added capacity could make the difference between a temporary problem and a prolonged outage.

“We are building the two tanks near by HQ, Southside station. Each thank is about two hundred and fifty thousand gallons in terms of storage, value of each tank is about two-point-two-five million dollars. Over a period of time Belize City and Belize District has really overgrown the population. An existing tank which is about a five hundred thousand gallon tank it barely provides six hours storage. Main line comes from the Double Run plant which is located in Sandhill. You are looking at seventeen miles of pipeline and if there is a breakage on that line sometimes that repair take sup to twelve hours. So we will run out of water within six hours, specifically on the southside of Belize City. So increase that storage capacity in order for us not to run out of water while we are doing any repair. So basically it is quick response time, protect the water security and be available twenty-four seven so that nobody has inconvenience while we are doing maintenance and repair works.”
Belize Water Services Limited expect both tanks to be completed and ready by March 15.
