Cabinet Approves Jobs/Training Boosts & Healthier School Meals

On Thursday, August 14th, 2025, the Cabinet met in its normal session to discuss future labor legislation improvements, healthier school meals, Belize’s participation in regional finance negotiations, and job and training boosts.

-Cabinet has greenlit a new program to help more Belizeans, especially women and youth, get into the workforce. The plan includes better training through institutions like ITVET, making sure skills match what employers actually need.

-The Ministry of Education got the go-ahead to roll out the Belize School Food and Nutrition Policy. It’s all about making sure students have access to healthy meals and creating school environments that support good habits. Over 15,000 students already benefit from the National Healthy Start Feeding Program, and this policy will make it even stronger.

-Belize attended its first meeting as a member of COSEFIN, the Council of Ministers of Finance of Central America, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. The goal? Better coordination on fiscal policy, trade, transport, and energy across the region.

-Three new international labor standards, covering workplace safety, harassment, and biological hazards, are heading to the National Assembly. Plus, Cabinet approved a full review of Belize’s Labor Act to modernize and strengthen protections for workers.

Finally, Cabinet reminds all Belizeans to prepare emergency kits and review family plans this hurricane season.
