Calcutta Village Condemns Vandalism of Christmas Tree
The Calcutta Village Council is condemning an act of vandalism after the community’s Christmas tree was deliberately damaged in the early hours of this morning.
According to the council, the incident occurred between three a.m. and three forty five a.m. The Christmas tree, which had been decorated with ornaments donated by residents, was torn down. Witnesses reported that the tree was standing intact at three a.m., but less than an hour later it was found broken on the ground.
Chairperson of the Calcutta Village Council, Alex Tzub, described the damage as extensive and said efforts are now underway to restore the tree. “Part of the tree is broken. And many of the decorations on the Christmas tree has been burst and the lot of the ball decorations were thrown off the tree. So we are trying to put back everything together, what we could, if possible. But if not we’ll still put it up again. So it’s just a bad minded people in the village,” Tzub said in a telephone interview.
Tzub noted that the incident is part of a wider pattern of vandalism affecting the village in recent weeks. “Just before the Christmas, there’s there have been many incidents that occurred and in this village especially in front of the community center where they stone vehicle windshields, vehicles glass doors and sorts of things. This vandalism has been happening a while, and we cannot catch them red-handed. So that is the problem,” he said.
The chairperson appealed to residents to assist the council in monitoring and reporting such incidents.
