Can Insurance Fraud Finally Be Stopped?
Every dishonest insurance claim in Belize has a cost, and honest drivers have been footing the bill. That changes today with the launch of ClaimsVAULT Belize, the country’s first shared motor claims intelligence system.
The platform was developed by the Organisation of Insurance Companies of Belize (ORINCO) in partnership with EPIC Technologies of Jamaica. It allows insurers to securely share claims data across the industry, which allows insurers to securely share claims data, helping them detect suspicious claims, speed up investigations and improve underwriting decisions.
Andrew Roe, CEO of Roe Group Companies, said the system’s biggest winner should be honest motorists. “Safe drivers who have gone years without having an accident won’t be penalised for the losses of the others. Because after today, when this system is launched, we’ll be able to see who the safe drivers are and who the unsafe drivers are,” Roe said.
According to Alma Gomez, Supervisor of Insurance at the Office of the Supervisor of Insurance & Private Pensions, motor vehicle insurance claims paid reached $5.3 million in the first quarter of 2026 alone, with $5.5 million in outstanding claims carried forward.
Gomez said that health insurance was not far behind, with $5.1 million paid and $2.3 million outstanding. “Insurance companies are reporting losses in these key major sectors,” she added.
