Canadian Woman Found Dead in Bullet Tree
Police are investigating the death of 65-year-old Canadian national Marty Thorne, whose body was discovered early Monday morning in Bullet Tree Village, Cayo District.
According to authorities, the caretaker of Thorne’s property contacted police around 7:30, after failing to locate her during a routine visit. “He made further checks on the property, and that is when she was located in the yard with visible injuries to the body,” ASP Stacy Smith confirmed.
Scenes of crime personnel processed the area, and Thorne’s body now awaits a post-mortem examination. While residents say the wounds appear to be stab-related, investigators have not yet confirmed the cause of death nor identified a motive or suspect.
Thorne, who had lived in Belize for decades, was a well-known figure in the community and a spa owner. Her neighbour and long-time friend, Michael Waight, was among the first to learn of her death. “I knew Ms Thorne. We are like family… I never believed what’s happened to her. I was really sad,” Waight told News Five.
He described the discovery as deeply disturbing. “As I see the blood, I was already thinking that this is something not good… I never has been seen something like this. My first time. Very scary.”
When asked about possible links to recent burglaries in the area, police clarified that no direct connection has been established. “We have not been able to establish any conclusive nexus between these incidents, but it is an area that is being noticed and observed by police.”
Authorities also noted that Bullet Tree Village remains under active surveillance, with operational units and police-operated cameras monitoring the area.
