Carnival Icon Leroy Green Passes

The Belize Carnival community is mourning the loss of one of its most influential figures, Leroy Green, hailed as a legend whose life and work helped shape the nation’s cultural celebrations.

Green was known for his passion for the arts, his dedication to preserving tradition, and his unwavering commitment to the annual Carnival. Friends and colleagues recall a man whose heart “beat to the rhythm of the drums” and whose creativity was reflected in the vibrant costumes and performances that brought the streets of Belize to life.

The Belize Carnival Association said Green’s contributions will remain “woven into the fabric of Belizean history” and that his legacy will inspire future generations of performers and artists.

The association said, “A man whose heart beat to the rhythm of the drums, whose spirit shone as bright as the feathers and colors he loved, and whose life’s work helped shape the beauty, creativity, and culture of our beloved Carnival.”
