For decades, Carol Foster helped the world see Belize through images that captured its raw beauty. Now, her life’s work is being celebrated in a new exhibition, “WILD 501,” a tribute to a career built on passion, partnership, and conservation.

Foster and her late husband, Richard Foster, became internationally known for their nature documentaries and photography, turning their shared love for the tropics into a storytelling legacy that introduced Belize’s ecosystems to global audiences.

“When I met Richard, he told me all about Belize… and when I saw Belize, I said yes. That’s where I’d like to stay,” Foster recalled. “We were passionate about the nature and passionate about each other. So it worked out.”

That passion, she says, felt like a fairytale, traveling the world while showcasing Belize’s natural wonders.

The WILD 501 exhibition, curated by Belizean artist Gilvano Swasey, not only highlights their iconic images and films but also preserves decades of conservation storytelling for future generations.

The Fosters also played a role in supporting wildlife protection efforts, including the development of the Belize Zoo. “He would be so pleased. I wish he was here… but he would be so pleased that I’m doing this and I’m giving it all back to the country.”
